Most cars and light trucks with internal combustion engines are equipped with one fuel injector per cylinder. I went for a test drive and checked a number of things. Throttle body flooding out continuously flow of gas could. It is also possible but unlikely to damage the internal components of the electronic parts by using a meter to read resistance. The pump by itself is cheap enough but the sending unit is bad as well so I need the whole assembly. Fuel injectors can get dirty and cause an idle issue. Since you've changed the distributor you can't just check and see if the base timing has changed to check the timing chain but you can grab the balancer and see how far you can rotate the crank before you feel resistance from the cam.
You can find this cylinder by doing a power balance test. My buddy has a 93 or 94 TBI on a 454 basically stock setup in a motor developed this problem where the injectors won't spray during cranking but if you get it to fire using starting fluid or drizzling fuel into the TB-- then it will fire and the injectors will start spraying and the engine runs just fine from then see this before? The rubber hose inside the fuel tank had ruptured. 1 - Not enough voltage to keep the fuel pump relay working. Tbi spraying too much fuel to store. Apprentley since I bought the Fuel injectors from skidim, and did a lot of other work myself (none that have to do with wiring or the computer) they say they won't work on it!! Some say its the throttle position sensor, some say the idle air, and some say the computer. If the signal was bad, it would reduce the amount of fuel flow by a likely reduction of pressure.

Changed the ignition module and tps sensor. I can't remember the last time I encountered a "weak" pump on a GM tbi unit. This will elevate fuel pressure; if you have dirty injectors this might straighten them out. TBIs don't have vacuum reference because the injectors are above the throttle plate which means they don't experience the changing pressures that port injectors in the manifold do.
If it's running it should develop more pressure than 1 PSI. From my experience, they don't like being run hard AT ALL. I got the fuel pressure gauge today and here are the numbers. Or use a vacuum gauge on the intake.

Connect A to B on the ALDL connector under the dash and read the codes first. Tbi spraying too much fuel lines. But I have made some progress. Before this i was getting the code for tps sensor. Hydraulic lock is distinctive because the engine comes to a complete instant stop with a loud boom.

In reply to thundrecougar: I don't think that rules out filter, but it definitely doesn't rule out pump. Oh- one other thing to check- the WIRING going to the pump. Temp readings look good. The O2 volts bounce all over the place, from. I also had a problem with the loaner fuel tester - if I make the schrader valve finger tight, the valve is closed and the gauge is not getting any pressure. Any help would be appreciated. Had friend start and hooked up injector and its going full blast and filling the carb intake. Stock ACDelco fuel pump and filter along with new NAPA sending unit/fuel line assy. FP failing would be really odd- I don't know of a pump that fails by adding fuel. Too Much Fuel, Fuel Injector Problems. I can't think of any other sensors involved so it might be time to look for a mechanical problem. That won't tell you if the chain has jumped but it will tell you if it's worn. I have never encountered this before.

Is the pressure regulator referenced to the intake manifold, or just sitting there? I'm stumped, I have a lot of info from the diagnostic but don't have the experience to know what is right and what is wrong. Fuel Smell – If an injector is leaking, you may detect a smell of gasoline while running. The rubber fuel lines external to the tank seem to be ok. It has never once set a code, and in those kind of conditions, the coolant almost never makes it above 100 F, no matter how hard you flog the engine. Other thing to take a look at would be the MAP sensor, if it is outta whack, it'll mess up your fuel requirements too. Is it acceptable to place it between the filter and the fuel pump? Only way to really check that is to hook up a scanner, and take a look at what the sensor is reading.
I don't believe you said anything about the service engine light( if it's a stock '89, should be lit up.. check the trouble before you try to change any sensors. Replaced the leaky injector and my truck is running better, although I did notice the engine tremble a little at idle. I don't know, wondering). The injector should NOT leak any fuel with it's connector off. I have to get this thing going by tomorrow on a broke budget.
Hmm- I think I have a bad injector I noticed this when I moved them to their opposite housings. New fuel pump fixed it.
