The boot releases with a lever and a twist of the foot. It is definitely on the stiff side of medium. It took me about half a day of riding to get used to stepping in properly. The thing that makes these bindings different is how easy to get in and out of them is, without having to strap in - just having to click in - so how easy is it really? I believe that the newer models released this year will have this problem fixed, but I still don't know how something so annoying made it to production, surely that came up in the testing. It's really simple to look at, but makes a very strong connection to the boot. Now as these are Step Ons everyone is going to ask about how the ease of getting in and out of them was. The Step On boots you have to pair up with are a little heavier than the regular versions so overall its a pretty middle ground overall weight.

Being realistic, strapping into a board in powder is a pain with regular bindings, and it still is with Step-Ons. I'm currently riding the Malavita bindings on my regular set up and the highback seemed to be the same stiffness. They felt like they were roughly the same as other Re:Flex bindings, but riding them with different boots it was a little hard to tell.
